The parade of the Wiesn landlords and breweries 2020
A festive start to Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest 2024 will commence at noon on Saturday September 21st and end on Sunday October 6th, 2024.
Around 1,000 participants take part in the festive parade of the Wiesn landlords and breweries at the Theresienwiese. Lead by the Münchner Kindl, the city mascot, on horseback and the festive horse-drawn carriage of the Munich mayor, followed by the flower-adorned carriages of the Wiesn landlords and their families, festival carts, bands and, of course, the magnificent carts of the Munich breweries, drawn by draft horses.
Traditional starting date: the first Saturday of the Wiesn
The parade of the landlords marks the official start of Oktoberfest. It takes place on the first Saturday of the Wiesn, before the famous “O'zapft is!”. The next one is at 10:45 am on Saturday, September 21, 2019. This is followed by the traditional costume and hunters’ parade at 10 am on Sunday, September 22, 2019.
Off to the Wiesn: the parade route
The parade starts on Josephspitalstraße behind the Sendlinger Tor, proceeds onto Sonnenstraße and turns left onto Schwanthaler Straße. From there, it heads straight onwards to the Bavariaring, after which it continues onto Wirtsbudenstraße and into the respective festival tents. Punctually at 12 noon, the mayor opens Oktoberfest in the Schottenhamel festival hall with the traditional call, “O’zapft is”.
Far above the action: stands offer the best view
The parade can be seen from the roadside (note, do not arrive by car as there are no parking spaces). If you prefer to watch the spectacle seated, you can reserve seats in one of the stands erected along the parade route. You can find the stands with the best views of the parade of Wiesn landlords and breweries here:
